Wake up the little ones and let them know that Christmas has come early to the Washington, DC area by way of the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center. The Gaylord is hosting their annual Christmas on the Potomac event, loaded with activities for the kids and adults including a Gingerbread Decorating Corner, a carousel, The Elf on the Shelf© Scavenger Hunt, the Potomac Express Train rides, pictures with Santa Claus and much more, including their main attraction, ICE!

ICE! is an expansive display of ice sculptures showcasing the story of Santa Claus Is Comin? To Town©. It?s truly a sight to be seen. Here are the ice cold facts!
- ICE! is inspired by Harbin, China?s Ice Lantern Festival, which was established in 1963

- 6,000 ice blocks weighing a total of 2 millions pounds of ice were carved by 35 Harbin, China artisans for 30 days in 12-hour shifts

- Each ice block weighs 400 pounds
In order to keep all of that ice frozen, for roughly 6 weeks, requires a ridiculous constant temperate setting of 9 degrees Fahrenheit! You bring the hats, scarves, and gloves and the Gaylord will provide the parkas.

As you enter Santa Claus Is Comin? To Town©, you?re immediately greeted by a life-size ice sculpture of Mr. and Mrs. Kringle. The self-guided tour walks visitors through 7 different rooms that depict the story of Kris Kringle?s life and how he came to be Santa Claus. Walk through ice tunnels and ?fly? down one of 5 ice slides.

ICE! is open now until January 3, 2016. Adults ages 12 and older are $28 (non-peak); $35 (peak). Children ages 3 to 11 are $20 (non-peak); $28 (peak). Kids 2 and younger are free.
